Get ready for a game-changer in Pakistani cricket! A bold move by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to revolutionize the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The PCB has unveiled a major shake-up, replacing the traditional draft system with a player auction, a move that promises to bring more transparency and a competitive edge to the league. But here's where it gets controversial...
With a boosted franchise purse of USD 1.6 million, the auction system aims to create a more balanced playing field and provide players with greater financial opportunities. PSL CEO Salman Naseer believes these reforms will drive the league's growth and innovation.
"The PSL is evolving!" Naseer exclaimed. "By transitioning to an auction, we aim to enhance team competitiveness and provide a fairer platform for player earnings."
And this is the part most people miss... The new rules allow each franchise to retain only four players, with a limit of one player per category. This means no more mentors, brand ambassadors, or right-to-match options, which were previously allowed for eight players per franchise.
The PCB has also abolished the mentor and brand ambassador roles, focusing solely on player retention.
Additionally, the two new teams, Hyderabad and Sialkot, will have the advantage of selecting four players from the pool before the auction, giving them a head start in building their squads.
Moreover, each franchise will be permitted to directly sign one foreign player who did not participate in PSL 10, allowing teams to inject fresh international talent into their rosters.
